How to Measure for a Hard Shell Helmet

How to Measure for a Hard Shell Helmet

In order to measure for a helmet, it is important, to have the correct tool to accurately measure.  The measuring tool should be able to easily measure the shape of the user's head.  It is recommended to use a soft tape measure or a flexible ruler (see examples below) to ensure accurate measurements.

Since proper fit is important for the comfort of the person wearing headgear, measurements should be determined by professional personnel.
  1. Measure the head circumference (A) at eyebrow level.
  2. Occipital measurement (B) is taken from eyebrow level to the back of the head at the point that the helmet is to end.
  3. Over the top of the Head (C) to top of ears.
How can I adjust the size of the helmet for my client?
In cases where the measurements do not align with the sizing shown on the measurement chart for the helmet, liner cushions are available to help with a proper fit.
  1. Liner Cushions come in 1/4" and 1/2" thickness to help form fit the circumference of our helmets.
  2. 1/2" Crown Pad adjusts the fit and/or prevents the helmet from falling over the eyes.
  3. 1/4" Liner Pads are 3 x 3 1/2" vinyl-coated discs that can be used for fitting and sizing adjustment.
  4. Cush-in-Pads are medical grade and perspiration absorbent pads that help individualize sizing and provide a cooler, more comfortable fit.
If for some reason the measurements do not fall within the above guidelines, or if there are other considerations to be taken into account, please contact customer service for information on Custom Helmets.
